"Eagle River Presbyterian Church issued contracts to Spernak & Son, LLC to repair 3,000 SF of earthquake damage parking lot subgrade, replace 16,000 SF of asphalt (2” asphalt + 4” D-1), replace 2,000 SF of damage sidewalk, install new concrete curb and gutter, handicap ramps, curb cuts, striping, exterior light fixtures, and other minor work. We were very satisfied with the finished product and remain very satisfied one year later.
Spernak & Son were timely on all aspects of the work from initial submittals to final inspection. They arrived on site according to schedule and completed tasks promptly. Spernak monitored subcontractors and ensured the final product met specifications. I would rate each of the subcontractors as “top notch” in their specialty – they all did great work for us. Over $200,000 of work was completed with only one small change order (discovered subsurface silt required over-excavation). Multiple changed conditions were encountered as work progressed and Spernak worked with us to develop solutions, and did so at no cost.
I was extremely impressed with Spernak’ project management. Almost every phone call or email with a question to them was answered on the same day. They provided all the onerous paperwork we required in timely fashion, and were honest in all their responses. Answers without “CYA” or “spin” is very rare in today’s construction world. Just great communication with us.
Spernak’ philosophy seems to be: have a smart, knowledgeable work force that can work quickly and resolve minor issues, do it right the first time, stay on schedule, keep change orders to a minimum. They even put a guard on the new concrete sidewalks so mischief makers wouldn’t damage the surface.
Bottom Line: The project was completed ahead of schedule, within budget, and without hassle. Management, workers, and subcontractors were professional, and quality was superb. I would recommend them for your civil contracting needs."
